Untitled Caulk Painting

I started the Untitled caulk painting in the fall of 2016. This painting is a reflection on the complexity and the eruptive nature of the world and biological life force. Not everything about life makes sense and can be comprehended and analyzed. Life explodes, evolves and erupts with time. This is what happened in making the painting - it became a process driven piece. Initially I connected two long stretchers together and began building texture on the canvas by adding acrylic caulk to it. As a final result it became a massive three-dimensional sculpture. While making this painting I was thinking a lot about my materials. Bathroom sealant applied on canvas is a pretty nonsensical combination, but at this particular scale it began to work somehow. The stretch between ridiculous and sublime is my favorite thing about this piece..
