Warte nur, balde…

Warte nur, balde ruhest du auch (Just wait, soon you will rest as well) is a pull toy in the shape of a dog that contains actual ashes of my deceased pet. The German title is a line from the lyrics for Wanderer's Nightsong by the German poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. “The accomplished poem unites landscape, creation and beings in evening silence, while man may still be restless but will expect sleep, death and eternal peace. In one small piece of poetry, Goethe wanders the whole cosmos.” (Wikipedia) With this piece I investigate my relationship to death and desire to have a symbol for immortality. I drew the real size silhouette of the dog, photographed and converted it into digital file. Then it was digitally cut on the CNC router out of MDF board, mounted to the platform on wheels topped with the fake grass. I plan to take this sculpture on daily walks and videotape my journey and people’s reaction when they realize the dog is a form of a mobile cemetery.
